HCPNA Membership
We are revising our By-Laws. HCPNA members will vote on them at the April meeting, but we ask that you review them. The PDF of revisions shows the proposed changes. Don't forget to update your membership if you haven't already for 2010. Please email rrticulate1@gmail.com for questions.
The historic district of College Park has an active neighborhood association (HCPNA) that meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings are usually held at Woodward Academy (1662 Rugby Avenue) at 7:00 PM in the Civic Area (east side) of the Main Dining Hall. It is is located to the right of the Academy's ivy-covered gate. During December and frequently during spring/summer, other neighborhood association activities replace the regularly scheduled meetings. The organization is based on the by laws (PDF) of the group.
During the meetings we have various speakers present information on local development including business and residential. We also have the monthly police report given by our community police officer and/or our police chief. On occasion city department heads and other employees are invited to discuss current neighborhood issues. If you are a resident and would like to present to the group, we ask that you be an HCPNA member before presenting. Also, babysitting is not offered during meetings, so we ask if children attend, that they behave in a manner that is not disruptive to the other attendees. A light snack and drinks are usually offered and occasionally food is provided by a local restaurant.
Events sponsored by HCPNA include the annual Historic College Park Arts Festival, neighborhood socials and occasional concerts in the Barrett Park. In the past we have organized a tour of homes and plant sales. Please see the HCPNA calendar for more. You may also notice some College Park residents with the HCPNA sunshine banner. Please go to the Contact Us page if you would like to purchase a banner or historical plaques.
In the late 1990s, HCPNA was instrumental in fighting the northward expansion of Atlanta's International Airport. Had the expansion been approved, large parts of College Park, East Point and Hapeville could have disappeared. Through the efforts of our community and its leaders, this potential tragedy was averted.
